GP appraisal

Percentage of GPs appraised during 2003/04

Rationale

Appraisal for GP principals was introduced on 1st April 2002. The Department of Health target is that all GMS and PMS Principals should have completed an appraisal and have an agreed personal development plan in place by the end of March 2004. Appraisals for non-principals will be introduced during 2003/04 and from 2004/05, every GP on a PCT list should be appraised annually. It is the responsibility of PCT chief executives to ensure that all GPs are appraised to timetable. Appraisals are important for continuing the professional development of doctors.
